How to Create a UPI QR Code with Amount (Free, Works with All UPI Apps)

How to create a UPI QR code with a fixed amount for free

Want customers, friends or tenants to pay you a fixed amount just by scanning? A UPI QR code with amount opens Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM or any other UPI app with your UPI ID and the amount already filled in. The payer only checks the details and enters their PIN.

Here are three free ways to make one, plus the safety checks you shouldn't skip.

Quick way: open our free QR Code Generator, choose UPI Payment, enter your UPI ID, name and amount, and download the QR as PNG. It runs entirely in your browser, so your UPI ID isn't sent anywhere.

What's inside a UPI QR code?

A UPI QR code is simply a payment link in this format:

upi://pay?pa=yourname@okaxis&pn=Your%20Name&am=500.00&cu=INR&tn=Rent
  • pa (payee address): your UPI ID, for example 9876543210@ybl or name@okhdfcbank.
  • pn (payee name): the name shown to the payer.
  • am (amount): the fixed amount in rupees. Leave it out to let the payer type any amount.
  • cu (currency): always INR.
  • tn (transaction note): an optional note such as "Rent October" or "Order 1234".

Any QR code that contains this link works with every UPI app, because they all follow the same NPCI standard.

Method 1: Techyami QR Code Generator (free, with amount)

  1. Open the QR Code Generator and select the UPI Payment tab.
  2. Enter your UPI ID. You can find it in your UPI app's profile section.
  3. Enter the payee name exactly as you want payers to see it.
  4. Type the amount (for example, 499). Leave it blank for an open-amount QR.
  5. Add a note if you like, then pick colors or add your shop logo.
  6. Scan the preview with your own phone to test it, then click Download PNG (for WhatsApp) or Download SVG (for printing).

Method 2: Your UPI app's own QR code

Every UPI app can show your personal QR code, and most let you request a specific amount:

  • Google Pay: tap your profile photo and open your QR code. Use the share option to send it.
  • PhonePe: tap the QR icon on the home screen or your profile to see "My QR".
  • Paytm: open your profile or the "Receive money" option to display your QR code.

Menu names change from time to time, but the QR code is always in the profile or "Receive" section. For a fixed amount inside the app, use the Request money option, which sends a request the payer approves.

Method 3: A merchant QR for a shop or business

If you run a shop, clinic, coaching class or online store, ask your bank or apps like PhonePe Business, Paytm for Business or Google Pay for Business for a merchant QR code. It's still free for UPI payments in most cases, and you get:

  • Instant payment alerts, including sound boxes that announce each payment.
  • Daily settlement reports for your accounts.
  • A verified business name, which builds trust with customers.

A generated QR (method 1) is perfect for personal use, rent, events, small sellers and invoices. For a busy counter, the official merchant QR is the better long-term choice.

Static vs dynamic amount: which one should you use?

  • Without amount (static): one QR you can print once and use forever. The payer types the amount.
  • With fixed amount: best for fixed fees such as rent, a course fee, an event ticket or a product price. Make a new QR whenever the amount changes.
  • Per-order dynamic QR: payment gateways generate a new QR for every order with the exact amount and an order ID. Use this for online stores where you need automatic reconciliation.

Safety checks before you share or print it

  • Scan it yourself first and confirm the name shown in the UPI app is yours.
  • Double-check the UPI ID. One wrong letter sends money to someone else, and UPI payments can't be reversed by the payer.
  • Protect printed QR codes. Fraudsters sometimes paste their own QR sticker over a shop's code. Check your printed QR regularly, laminate it, and keep it where staff can see it.
  • Never scan a QR to receive money. Scanning a QR and entering your PIN always sends money. Anyone who asks you to scan a code "to receive a refund" is running a scam. Read our guide to common UPI scams to learn the other tricks.

Troubleshooting

The app shows "invalid QR" or doesn't open

Check that the UPI ID contains an @ and has no spaces. Use the default "Medium" error correction and keep a white border (quiet zone) around the code.

The amount isn't filled in

Some apps let the payer edit the amount even when it's in the QR. Mention the expected amount in your message or on the printed card.

Payments from my personal QR are limited

Banks and apps may apply limits or extra checks to payments to personal (P2P) UPI IDs, especially for large or frequent business payments. If you receive many customer payments, switch to a merchant QR.

FAQ

Is it free to create a UPI QR code?

Yes. Creating a QR code is free, and UPI payments to personal accounts are free for both sides.

Can I create a UPI QR code without an app?

Yes. You only need your UPI ID. Our QR Code Generator creates the code in your browser, and it works with every UPI app.

Can someone misuse my UPI QR code?

Your QR code only lets people pay you. Nobody can withdraw money using it. Still, don't share your UPI PIN, OTP or screen with anyone. If you do lose money, call 1930 and follow our steps to file a cyber fraud complaint online.
